About the Human
Standard Institute
Establishing a clear standard for how content is created.
The Human Standard Institute™ is an independent organization focused on bringing clarity and transparency to how content is created.
As artificial intelligence becomes an integrated part of publishing and content development, the distinction between human-created and AI-generated work is becoming less visible. The Human Standard™ was established to provide a consistent way to define and communicate that distinction.
Our Purpose
The Human Standard Institute exists to establish a clear, credible framework for understanding the role of human involvement in content creation.
By defining and applying a shared standard, we support publishers in maintaining trust with their audiences while adapting to new technologies.
What We Do
We work directly with publishers and content organizations to apply the Human Standard across their work.
Through a structured evaluation process, we assess how content is created and assign one of three designations:
- Human Created (HC)
- Human Guided (HG)
- AI Generated (AIG)
This provides a consistent, transparent way to communicate authorship and production methods.
Our Approach
The Human Standard is built on three core elements:
- Declared authorship through required attestation
- AI-supported analysis using a custom authorship evaluation system
- Human judgment through a curated network of trained reviewers
This combined approach ensures that classification reflects both technical signals and real-world creation practices.
Why This Matters
Trust in content depends on understanding how it is created.
As AI becomes more capable, the absence of clear standards creates uncertainty for audiences and risk for publishers. Without transparency, all content becomes harder to evaluate, regardless of its origin.
The Human Standard provides a clear way to communicate authorship and maintain credibility in a changing environment.
